Abstract
An argon plasma at atmospheric pressure excited by a radio-frequency field has been used as a radiation source from which the transition probabilities for twenty-eight argon I lines in the blue-near-u.v. region have been developed. Good agreement was obtained with values suggested by Adcock and Plumtree (1) for fourteen additional argon I lines. The plasma flame exhibited a nearly uniform temperature along a radius and had excellent stability with respect to time which made it most suitable for such studies. Two axial zones of widely differing temperature were utilized in order to improve accuracy, to confirm that local thermodynamic equilibrium obtained, and to establish that the flame was at constant temperature over the radial distance studied.
