Abstract
Spectral emission measurements for several 20 Å bandpasses between 3370 Å and 6000 Å have been made for shock-heated oxygen in the 3-in. conventional shock tube. The SACHA Code (1) has been used to compute the integrated emissivity in these bandpasses due to the observed O 2(SR) lines for the reflected-shock conditions of 5900°K–8500°K at 0·33 ϱ 0. Separate calculations have been made using the Franck-Condon arrays of Nicholls (2) based on the Morse potential function and an array based on the Rydberg-Klein-Rees potential. (3) SACHA-experimental comparisons yield an ƒ-value of 0·040 for the O 2 Schumann-Runge electronic transition which is in good agreement with the ƒ-values of 0·048 and 0·034 obtained respectively by Treanor and Wurster (4) and Krindach et al., (5) from spectral absorption studies of the incident shock. The RKR (3) Franck-Condon array describes the observed spectral distribution of the O 2(SR) lines somewhat better than the RWN array. (2)
