Abstract

There are both optimistic and pessimistic views on the availability of cheap and sufficient fossil fuels for the maintenance of our present lifestyle. Fossil fuels will definitely run out in the future, and how long we can rely on them is still debatable. Here, the progression of a distinctive movement started by a pessimistic school teacher from a very small town in rural England – Totnes in Devon – to a worldwide regional fossil fuel free movement is described.
