Abstract

A transition scenario from deflagration to detonation in an end multiphase slug has been proposed, in which the slug is located near an end wall and is made of a dense combustible dust cloud suspended in a combustible gas. To prove the concept, experiments were carried out in an 80 mm diameter detonation tube filled with an acetylene–air mixture and a slug of dense aluminum dust suspension near the end wall. The experimental results and numerical analysis indicated an enhancement of wall peak pressure by a factor of more than twice that of a transition from deflagration to detonation (DDT) in the gas system alone.
