Abstract

The threshold temperatures of a standing wave thermoacoustic engine at fundamental and second order frequencies with different charge pressures were calculated by using thermoacoustic network theory in order to investigate the onset and frequency transition characteristics of standing wave thermoacoustic engines and understand the conditions for frequency mode transition. The quality factors of the thermoacoustic engine under different conditions were calculated. The onset and the frequency mode transition characteristics under different conditions were analyzed. The onset temperature and the frequency transition characteristics were measured in a self-designed standing wave thermoacoustic engine experimentally. The experimental results were used to verify the calculation results. The calculated onset frequencies and the frequency transition characteristics under different charging pressures accorded well with the experimental results.
