Abstract
PURPOSE: The case aims to deal with transitional entrepreneurship and threats towards survival in a brick kiln family business.DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: This case study is based on exploratory research, individual interviews at different levels.FINDINGS: The competency of the business purely lies in the quality of the product, utilization of market opportunity, capability, honesty and complete involvement in business. Undoubtedly the family business has shown tremendous growth but its existence in near future is doubtful due to certain exogenous uncontrollable factors such as restriction by government, environmental pollution and labour issues. The next generation wants to join the business but is focusing on newer alternatives or business ideas. Hence, to diversify or to switch on to an entirely different reliable business idea, which is in compliance with the external forces, is the best option for consideration.RESEARCH LIMITATIONS: The case is restricted to transition and survival of new generation and dilemma in making a choice regarding a new business idea, but it has a great learning towards entrepreneurial belief and spirit.ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The case is original, the new generation is looking to switch or diversify the business.
