Abstract

This letter presents a design-oriented analysis on the transient stability of grid-forming (GFM) converters using single-loop voltage-magnitude control scheme. It is revealed that the used voltage-magnitude controller has a critical impact on the transient stability. This differs from the GFM converters using the vector-voltage control, whose transient stability is dominated by the outer power control loops. The theoretical findings are verified by experimental tests.
