Abstract

In the proposed work, the effectiveness of the power system stabilizer and static var compensator is analyzed. Synchronous machines are represented by detailed flux linkage model. The equations of the interconnecting network are expressed with regards to a synchronously rotating common reference frame. Equations of synchronous machine, voltage regulator and speed governor are solved in Park’s reference frame fixed to the field of each individual machine. It is shown that static reactive-power controller can improve synchronizing and damping torque considerably. The effectiveness of the controllers is demonstrated on a two machine system with a simplified tie line by creating an abnormal operating condition, a 3-phase short circuit. Simulation results are presented at the end of the paper.
