Abstract

The transient stability of a power system integrated with an offshore wind farm through a high-voltage direct current link has been addressed in this paper. The most severe three-phase fault has been considered in the transient stability study. The analysis shows the behaviour of a faulted power system before the inception of fault, during fault and after the fault. Sequential method is used to determine the location for placing a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) in the power system to enhance the transient stability. From different test cases, it has been found that the transient stability of such a system is enhanced by incorporating STATCOM.
