Abstract

The variable discrete ordinates method is adopted to solve the transient radiation heat transfer in a semi-transparent slab with arbitrary refractive index distribution, exposed to collimated or diffuse irradiation. Influences of the optical thickness, scattering albedo, and anisotropically scattering for different refractive index profiles are considered. The proficiency of the present method is tested by results of other validated methods. The privilege of this approach is to handle the semi-transparent media with non-continuous and non-monotonic refractive index distributions.
