The findings were of particular interest because they were considered to be anaphylactic in origin. The occasion for the present report was the fortuitous occurrence in the same individual, at the end of convalescence from serum sickness, of pharyngitis and tonsillitis, which was followed, after a five-day interlude of normal temperature, by a second transient enlargement of the heart.
