Abstract

Metabolic changes are essential for neurodevelopmental processes. However, little is known about how and when neuronal metabolic remodeling occurs to promote functional circuits. In this issue of Cell, Knaus etal. demonstrate that a temporary perinatal shift in metabolites and lipids is crucial for cortical neurons' survival and wiring.
