Abstract

In this paper, we develop the transient performance limits of wireless transmissions for ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC). In particular, we derive the exact statistics of the maximum amount of data that can be delivered during a fixed time duration over fading channels, for both channel state information (CSI) at transmitter side and CSI at receiver side only scenarios. Following a recently proposed data-oriented approach, we then analyze the performance of sample ideal transmission schemes in terms of URLLC support. Selected numerical examples are presented to examine the effect of power adaptation and rateless coding on transient transmission performance over fading channels.
