Abstract

The magnetic moments of the first 2+ states in 70,72,74,76Ge and the second 2+ state in 74Ge have been measured using the thin-foil transient field technique. The measurements were performed in a recoil-velocity region for the Ge ions where the integrated magnetic field strengths predicted by two recent transient field parameterisations are equal. The g factor deduced using these parameterisations are +0.468(26), +0.399(33), +0.433(20), +0.419(23) and +0.41(12) respectively. These follow the prediction g=Z/A in contrast to the deviation suggested by earlier measurements. The velocity dependence of the transient field was measured in the velocity range 0.017c<v<0.041 c with the result BTF(v) varies as v+0.63(18).
