Abstract

A dual beam ‘thermal lens’ experiment in a pico- to nano-second time scale is reported using picosecond and subpicosecond laser pulses for pump and probe, respectively. A fast response of a transient lens signal is observed after the photoexcitation of rhodamine 6G/methanol and methyl red/water solution. The origin of the transient lens of the former is attributed to the population lens and the latter to the temperature lens.
