Abstract

Introduction: Transient erythroblastopenia of childhood (TEC) is a generally harmless, rare bone marrow disorder of unknown etiology, probably triggered by viral infections. The disorder occurs in children aged 3 months to 4 years and is characterized by progressive normocytic-normo-chromic anemia, reticulocytopenia and elevated serum iron levels. Apart from anemia, leading to palor and fatigue, severe symptoms are rare. Sporadic cases of transient neurologic events have been reported in association with TEC, however, hardly any data is found when reviewing the literature.
