Abstract

Four patients, aged 8 months to 4 years, were found to have anaemia and absence of red cell precursors in the bone marrow. Granulocytes and platelets were normal. The disease was probably acquired and all patients recovered spontaneously or after prednisone treatment. It is suggested that these patients should be diagnosed as ‘transient erythroblastopenia’ to differentiate this disease from congenital hypoplastic anaemia.
