Abstract

The time evolution of nonlinear absorption of CdS microcrystals in glass matrix was studied by means of the pump-and-probe technique with 5 ps time resolution. The electron-hole density dependent competition between concurrent band filling, causing the bleaching of the sample, and the darkening effect due to band gap renormalization has been observed in time-resolved experiments, as well as in those where the excitation intensity at a fixed time delay is changed between pumping and probing beams.
