Abstract

In a laser bistable operation the transient response is investigated when a control parameter is step-switched to a value outside the bistability region. A two-peaked probability distribution for the laser intensity at a given delay time is measured under the influence of internal noise or an externally applied noise. The phenomenon is briefly discussed on the basis of the theory for optically bistable passive systems.
