Abstract

Transient resonant light scattering in a localized-electron-phonon system with intermediate coupling strength by a short-pulse excitation is theoretically studied. We clarify how the resonant light scattering proceeds from the virtual process to the real one as time goes on. Rayleigh and Raman scattering, hot luminescence, and ordinary luminescence distinctively appear in the time-resolved spectrum because of their different transient responses. Raman scattering with large Stokes shift is found to arise due to the instantaneous virtual change in the amplitude of the lattice vibration.
