Abstract

In this communication, a transient analysis of a double slope-double basin solar still has been presented by incorporating the effects of water mass in the upper and lower basin, initial temperature of water in the lower basin, temperature dependent evaporative heat transfer coefficient, etc. Numerical calculations have been carried out for a typical summer day (viz. 15 June 1987) in Delhi to predict the performance of the proposed system. A comparison of performance has been made between single and double basin solar stills. It is observed that the double basin solar still gives better performance than the single basin still due to better utilization of latent heat of vaporization.
