Abstract

Flash photodissociation of Cl 2 in Kr, and Cl 2, Br 2 or I 2 in Xe, leads to transient UV absorption bands attributed to contact charge-transfer interaction between ground-state rare-gas and halogen atoms. With XeCl or XeBr strong, narrowband absorptions occur precisely at the rare-gas halide excimer laser wavelengths.
