ABSTRACT First Edition six inch to the mile Ordnance Survey maps are used to examine the economy, sites and sizes of transhumance settlements in Highland Perthshire. It is suggested that these characteristics may have influenced the use of several Gaelic transhumance words in Perthshire, and the links between landscape, economy and placenames are explored
