Abstract
The article analyzes some peculiarities regarding the use of transgenics (products or genetically modified organisms) in Brazilian agriculture, particularly the temporal and spatial complex of its dominant practice in the country's agricultural system. The analysis focuses on the environmental and socio-economic factors that add to such agricultural biotechnology. The theoretical approach refers to the definition of nature coined by Karl Marx and his theories on society, the economy and the policy applied to the XIXth century European capitalist agriculture. The study closes with considerations on the subject.

A Revolução Tecnológica — campo de uma nova revolução industrial, no qual se insere a tecnologia e a automação aplicada aos processos produtivos, daí incluindo as inovações no campo — pode ser entendida como o produto do trabalho humano formulado como práxis (denominação cunhada por Marx, entendida como prática social dominante advinda do conhecimento, agregada a algumas ferramentas e modos de intervir para transformar o mundo). A natureza é vista como a base material da produção, bem como produto em transformação advindo do aperfeiçoamento do trabalho humano que se opõe a qualquer redução da materialidade bruta e estanque (OLIVEIRA, 2005). O cultivo de transgênicos é entendido, em um determinado momento histórico do processo de produção social, como uma expressão da mais recente “revolução agrícola”, fruto do capitalismo agrícola global — e não um simples produto do trabalho humano estruturado com a natureza A partir do método dialético, o presente texto busca responder às características dessa nova revolução tecnológica e explicar por que ele está se tornando uma prática dominante na agricultura brasileira
