Abstract

AbstractPolytrauma is a major public health challenge. In France, road accidents rank fourth among causes of death, and polytraumas are the leading cause of years of life lost. Management is largely based on blood transfusion, targeting acute traumatic coagulopathy. Recommendations advocate the use of packed red blood cells, therapeutic plasma, and platelet concentrates during massive transfusions. Massive Transfusion Protocols aim to reduce delays and enhance efficiency in management. Clinical scores and biological criteria, such as viscoelastic tests, help anticipate transfusion needs. Although widely used, massive transfusion protocols exhibit variations in content, ratios, and triggering criteria. Their application extends beyond trauma, posing challenges in terms of organization, transfusion pack composition, and waste management.
