Abstract

To the Editor .—In the paper on transfusion malaria 1 the authors report that a course of primaquine phosphate was given in accordance with my recommendations. 2 I believe that an important point has been overlooked. When malaria is acquired by inoculation of infected blood, in contrast with inoculation by mosquito, no exoerythrocyte hepatic infection is established. Therefore, relapses do not occur and primaquine, an occasionally toxic drug, is unnecessary.
