Abstract

In 2002, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) instituted the Outcome Project, which established 6 core competencies for residency education and changed the scope and depth of the program director and program coordinator responsibilities dramatically.1 The paradigm shift changed the ACGME-defined program coordinator role from primarily clerical/secretarial in nature to a managerial one, necessitating specialized knowledge of ACGME requirements, project management skills, and the ability to function as an integral part of the program leadership team.
