Abstract

Design optimization and characterization environments for electromagnetic and electromechanical devices such as electric machines and transformers typically involve the use of Electromagnetic (EM) Finite Element-State Space (FE-SS) models that require large number of iterations and computational time. This work proposes the utilization of FE-SS models in conjunction with Fuzzy Logic (FL) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) search algorithms and presents the results of a case study to increase efficiency by minimizing losses and reducing the weight of a power transformer.
