Abstract

This chapter focuses on Wonder Woman as depicted in the film, Wonder Woman, and Superman, as represented in two films, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. In Wonder Woman, Diana Prince is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and Zeus, making her a half-god with superpowers. In Justice League, strong memories of love – of humans and Steve Trevor – and her deep hope of triumphing over evil propel Diana back to her role and identity as Wonder Woman. Superman, born the infant Kal-El, was from the planet Krypton. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Superman dies saving his Earth mother, Martha. In Justice League, Superman is brought back to life. Modern understandings of grief have moved from stage-based models proposed by Lindemann and Kubler-Ross. Kubler-Ross’s model of coping was developed through her conversations with the dying and was widely applied in describing grief as well as in counseling the bereaved.
