Abstract

The effect of Ge addition on the microstructure and martensitic transformation of polycrystalline Ni 56.5Fe 17Ga 26.5 shape memory alloy was investigated using optical metallography technique, X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimeter. The results showed that the martensitic transformation temperatures decrease monotonously with the increase of fraction of Ge substitution for Ni. The decrease of the transformation temperatures should be related to the change of the electron concentration after the addition of Ge in NiFeGa alloys.
