Abstract

This article describes some general aspects of ancient Israelite religion. It is investigated as subject to permanent change and transformation. The article focusses on two examples of transformation processes in ancient Israelite religion and society: the development of ancient Israelite monotheism as an example of a transformation process in religion, and the identity concepts of “Israel” and “Judah” as an example of a transformation process in ancient Israelite society.
