Abstract

Two-mode optical fibers in which the refractive index varies periodically along the axis are considered. The effect of the imaginary part of a complex refractive index on the transformation and dispersion of a propagating optical pulse is studied theoretically. It is demonstrated that the pulse can be compressed with no phase modulation at the fiber input.
