Abstract

A Fritschen-type net radiometer was converted to a hemispherical radiometer by the spray application of black paint to the lower polyethylene dome and the utilization of a second polyethylene layer to secure three fine thermocouples in close proximity to the inwardly radiating paint surface. The instrument was calibrated by three different techniques and utilized outdoors to measure the combined influx of solar radiation and atmospheric thermal radiation. It appeared to be successful in all tests.
