Abstract

The austenite-to-ferrite transformation of plain medium carbon (0.25C) steel during deformation at a slow strain rate of 0.01s -1 occurred by dynamic massive transformation at temperature below critical temperature Tc, within a 2-phase field, similarly to the case of a plain low carbon (0.15C) steel. The critical temperature Tc is believed to be the deformation induced To, which was higher than To by about 50 C, The dynamic massive transformation was largely suppressed at a strain rate of 1s -1 .
