Abstract
Simple sequence repeat(SSR) is a popular tool in genetic studies.Currently, only a few SSR markers are available in mungbean(Vigna radiata L.),whereas plenty of SSR markers have been developed in its close relative adzuki bean(V.angularis L.).In this study,187 SSR primer pairs from adzuki bean were tested in mungbean.Approximately 75% of them generated repeatable and clear products in mungbean, indicating a high homology between genomes of the two species.Of the transferable SSR markers,28 primer pairs generated polymorphic products in 60 mungbean genotypes with a total of 81 alleles. The average polymorphic information content(PIC) value is 0.36.Based on the SSR fingerprints, the 60 accessions can be divided into different groups in agreement with their geographical origins. The exotic accessions were notably separated from the domestic genotypes, indicating the importance of exotic accessions in broadening the Chinese mungbean gene pool. The polymorphic SSR markers identified in this study are effective in genetic study and germplasm resource screening in mungbean.
