Abstract

To clarify the transfer rate of FP elements from the calcination layer to the glass melt, we have studied the transfer rate of ruthenium. A 1.0 g of sodium ruthenate or ruthenium dioxide was placed on the surface of a 20 g of borosilicate glass whose sodium content was 4, 10 or 20 wt%, and heated at 1473 K. The transfer rates of ruthenium were evaluated at 4-16 μmol h-1, and the rates were well correlated with the sodium content in the glass. Ruthenium dioxide was found to be more difficult than sodium ruthenate to dissolve into the borosilicate glass.
