Abstract

Lymph node cell nuclei from either ovalbumin immunized or non-immunized rabbits were compared for their ability to synthesize RNA. Nuclei from immunized animals incorporated labelled nucleotides 1.15 to 3.05 times more than the nuclei from control animals. In addition, the characteristic A + U G + C ratio increases significantly after immunization. Using α-amanitin, it is shown that both these quantitative and qualitative changes are related mainly to the activity of the class B RNA polymerases present through the nucleoplasm and implicated in the synthesis of DNA-like RNA.
