Abstract

Ping-pong beam training (PPBT) is a procedure for estimating the singular vectors of a channel matrix. It relies on alternate transmissions between two devices and is applicable to reciprocal channels. In a large multi-user MIMO system with massive antenna arrays at both base station and user devices, PPBT is used to obtain an estimate of the left and right singular vectors associated to the maximal singular value. Based on those singular vectors, multi-user MIMO transceivers are built and their performance is analyzed. A zero-forcing structure is shown to lead to an inter-user interference-free performance under asymptotic conditions.
