Abstract

This work investigates the impact of inherent residual transceiver impairments of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems on the performance of linear minimum mean-squared error filtering and parallel interference cancellation (LMMSE-PIC) based iterative receiver. The residual transceiver impairments are first modeled as Gaussian noise at the transmitter in this work. Then a residual-transceiver-impairments-aware technique with empirically determined transmitter noise is proposed to mitigate the performance loss associated with the residual transceiver impairments. Numerical results based on MIMO systems with typical residual transceiver impairments show that the proposed method achieves significant performance gain over the conventional one which is designed for ideal transceivers.
