Abstract

For this hemodynamic study, Freis's team devised a method for determining the net bidirectional exchange of substances permeable to the capillary walls of the human forearm, using T-1824 (a dye that binds to plasma protein), sodium thiocyanate, and deuterium oxide (heavy water). They were then able to learn the rate at which water moves between body tissues and capillaries in cell metabolism.
