Abstract
In the recent past, India has seen a number of outbreaks and epidemics of transboundary infectious virus diseases associated with swine. Classical swine fever (CSF), African swine fever (ASF), Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) infections, Porcine parvovirus, Swine Influenza and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) infections are the major transboundary viral diseases prevalent in Indian swine populations. Understanding the impact of factors that provoke the emergence of viral infections is the major challenge faced in the control and prevention of emerging transboundary viral diseases. In-depth knowledge on disease status is crucial in successfully implementing disease control programs. The movement of animals influences the spread of pathogens in swine populations. This article gives insight into major emerging transboundary emerging viral infections of swine and their current status in India.
