Abstract

The Veterans Administration Department of Medicine and Surgery, the three Armed Forces, and several other organizations have engaged in a well-coordinated cooperative study of the chemotherapy of tuberculosis since the close of World War II. The 18th Conference was held in St. Louis, in February, 1959. This paper-bound volume is a complete transcript of fifty papers presented there along with spontaneous discussions and comments—sometimes of more worth than the formal presentations—thirty-one papers read by title, and committee reports which deal largely with future study plans. This conference had world-wide representation and can be expected to continue to exert a major influence in tuberculosis practice. The Transactions are devoted chiefly to drug therapy for tuberculosis—primarily pulmonary, of course—but they touch on several extra-thoracic forms of the disease as well.
