Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of a combination of Transactional Analysis and Gestalt therapy used in conjunction with group counseling for married couples. Six couples and 12 control-group membersparticipated in the study. Participants were administered a pre/post measure on the Tennessee SelfConcept Scale to assess changes in the level of their self-esteem. The results revealed significant changes in acceptance of self in relationship to other people. In addition, a directional change was noted in improved self-concepts with relation to the family. This combination approach warrants consideration for those involved in marital counseling.
