Abstract

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of Butorphanol and Tramadol as post-surgical analgesics in eighteen ovariohysterectomy bitches, divided into three groups’ containing 6 animals in each. Group A and Group B were administered with Butorphanol @ 0.35 mg/kg IM and Tramadol @ 1.5 mg/kg IM respectively as single dose immediately after completion of operation and the animals of Group C were kept as control without any post-operative analgesic in entire observation period. The physiological parameters and pain assessment test were taken pre and postoperatively at 0 min, 15 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hrs, 4 hrs and 6 hrs.
