Abstract

In this paper, the propagation dynamics of circular Airy beams (CABs) with different initial launch angles through a medium having linear potential is studied analytically and numerically. The results show that the trajectory and focal length can be flexibly controlled by combining the potential gradient and the initial launch angle. The CAB in linear potential can maintain its Airy waveform before focusing. When the initial field is far from the center, we get analytical solutions to predict the trajectory and focal length of the CAB with initial launch angle in linear potential. In addition, two kinds of new ways of focusing have been proposed. We also provide valuable insight into the ballistic dynamics from the viewpoint of classical mechanics. Our research will broaden the applications of CAB in various fields including optical trapping and particle manipulation.
