Abstract

Clinically significant bladder diverticula are an uncommon finding. Most of them are acquired secondary to bladder outlet obstruction. Surgical management for bladder diverticuli includes classical open, endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques performed transperitoneally or extraperitoneally. The risk of ureteral injury increases because the normal anatomic relationship of the ureter to the bladder may be severely distorted by the diverticulum, particularly in case of larger diverticulum. Herein, we report the laparoscopic transperitoneal diverticulectomy for a giant bladder diverticulum, and describe the surgical technique to avoid ureteral injury and help for identification and dissection of the diverticulum during the laparoscopic procedure.
