Abstract

This study analyzes individual differences in the decision behavior of experts and novices using a multicriteria Decision Support System (DSS). It is based on a cognitive approach, and it adopts a multicriteria task, a specifically developed DSS and a lab experiment as research methodology. Results showed differences between the behavior of experts and novices concerning information processing – complacency and consistency –, and decision strategies – compensatory or non compensatory, transgressions –. In the final discussions, these results lead to a proposal of functionalities to be included in the development of DSS, which follow the cognitive approach.
