Abstract
The need for training users of automated systems is discussed from the viewpoint of both the social and business backgrounds. This is followed by an explanation of how a training scheme has been set up for 21, 000 persons whose job brings them into contact with the product and/or process of automation but have had no specific instruction in this subject. There are six courses. The educational model on which the training courses are based is discussed, together with the basic principles and content of the courses. The methods of transferring knowledge and their implementation in training groups of twelve persons under the guidance of two trainers are dealt with in more detail. The use of a CAL programme for 16, 000 course members within the context of interactive individual instruction is briefly discussed. Finally, the effects to be expected from the training scheme and the reasons for an organization making such a high investment are considered. The above is described from the viewpoint of behavioural science.
