Abstract

A s scientists and healthcare leaders, we must look beyond today’s horizons to future scientific endeavors that will advance our understanding of health, as well as explore ways to better and more quickly integrate research findings into evidence-based clinical practice. For nursing science to pursue this future, we need to continually attract and cultivate new scientists who bring new ideas, perspectives, questions, and approaches. Attracting and retaining these scientists requires the availability of consistent, strong, and innovative training programs. A core mission of the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), one of the 27 institutes and centers of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is the support of research training and career development. The NINR devotes more than 7% of its annual budget to training, a vital investment in the growth of nursing science, and training continues to be one of our highest priorities. The NINR currently offers a wide range of comprehensive and rigorous training opportunities.
