Abstract

Fast development in the field of process automation during the last ten years requires adaptation also in education and training programs as well as in their contents and instruction aids. Because the degree of automation has become more and more significant competition factor in industries, the automation personnel should be able to learn new technology fast and effectively. This means that the training of automation must be interesting and stimulating. The use of hypermedia technology is expected to give better results than conventional methods. This paper gives an introduction to a COMETT II-project that is going on in the University of Oulu together with Technische Universität Berlin, Universidade de Coimbra, POHTO and with industrial partners in Finland. The project is concerned with the building of training materials for process automation to be used both in university courses and in continuing education of people from industry. The main part of the material is built utilizing a commercial hypertext software to which supporting materials like pictures, photos and video tapes are connected. The materials can be used as a lecturer support or for selflearning.
